Because I Really Don't want to do my Laundry Right Now...

And because I don't get how to use Pinterest.  I have told myself I can't get sucked into one more online time waster.  I have my blog and I have Facebook, and that is where I must draw the line. Remember when Blogs were like the new big thing?  And now they are kind of passe.  Weird.
By the way, it took me two full hours to clean my kitchen this morning.  My dishwasher has been broken for more than a month now.  At first I thought it was a nice change because there was no dishwaser to unload.  And now I realize that I was temporarily insane.  Oh how I long for a dishwasher.  It takes forever, FOREVER to wash just one dinner mess and all the accompanying pots and pans.

Anyway.  This is the time of year when I get ticked off that Fall is not here.  I get ticked off every time I hear that someone went apple picking or see a picture of them wearing boots.  Okay. Let me rephrase that because that sounds snarky.  The truth is I am just jealous.  I love Fall.  And it is still 95 degrees here. And I am ready for it. I look longingly at my boots every day and for the day that I can leave my hair down for the whole day.
Anyway, as one of my wise friend's says, "This is a First world Problem."  And I realize that.
But I just wanted to say, Fall, I love you.  And I miss you.  But I hope that you have fun visiting my friends who live elsewhere.

The End.

Also,  I have compiled a new wishlist.  I know that Don will be excited, because he really loves to get his Christmas shopping done early.  And he loves Malls. A lot.

1. This will make baking with apples infinitely easier: It peels and cores them. Amazing.

2. My children (and okay, maybe myself) have officially broken all but 2 of our original dinnerware collection.   I love these plates.  My new plan would be to only use them for company.  And the rest of the time we can continue to break the rest of our chipped, mangled, and mismatched assortment of plates.

3.  I like these clothes.  Because they are pretty.

I could do without the shirt, but I think the belt is muy cute.
But I guess I probably should get a dishwasher before any of this other nonsense.

This Week in the Mortensen Household

*Macie says uh oh about almost everything, and I discovered last night that she loves the show "Wipe Out." She laughed and said "Uh oh" over and over again.

*Chloe's thoughts this week:
"Foolish means...kinda cool and kinda pretty."

"Mom! When I hear music, my body starts moving and I just can't stop!"

*Melissa's Thoughts this week:
I went out to lunch with some ladies in my Ward, one of them being 90 years old, so of course she got to pick where she wanted to go.  And her choice was Taco Bell.   And she told us, "Their food is just so delicious!"
She is probably (one of) my favorite people on the planet.
My 90 year old Grandma loved Taco Bell too.
I would not say that I love Taco Bell.  But I will say that it is an effective way to feed your whole family for under 5 dollars, and you know what, in this day in age, that is really saying something.
Long Live Taco Bell.
Or... Viva Taco Bell. Ya, something like that.

This morning I woke to Chloe in my bed.  (like every other morning)
And then she got up, but told me, "Mom, you stay sleeping."
And I said, Fine! Don't mind if I do!
Next thing I hear is movement in Macie's room. Then the fridge open.
Then I see both Macie and Chloe in my room, Macie holding a fresh bottle of milk.
Macie starts crying for me, but Chloe ushers her out of the room and says, "Don't worry Mom! I'll take good care of her! You stay sleeping!"
And I said, Fine! Don't mind if I do!
Next thing I know the girls are back in my room, but this time Macie is wearing a clean outfit and a new diaper.
Chloe gets an A +++ this morning. It filled my heart with glee.

She also told me this morning, after watching tv, that "There is a new movie tonight, 7/6 central."

No that wasn't me, that was some other crazy lady.

Today I decided to rest my eyes for just a little bit before picking Chloe up from school.
At 2:15 something internal jolted me awake.
I looked at my phone.  2:15...2:15...I know I am supposed to do something at 2:15...hmmmmm....what was it....I remember now! I am supposed to pick Chloe up at 2:15!!
Being that I am pretty much always hot, I had... ahem, removed an article of clothing for my little nap.
In my haste, I returned that article of clothing to what I thought, was it's rightful place.
As I arrived at school and walked over to greet Chloe, I didn't get my usual, "Mommy!" and accompanying hug.
She just looked at me puzzled.  And then said disapprovingly, "Is your shirt on backwards?"
And then I looked at myself.  My shirt was not on backwards.  It was inside out.
So then I shuffled sheepishly back to my car as the other adults most likely politely pretended not to notice.

I am just leaving super impressions right and left, over at that school.

A Don Story

A conversation between Don and me:

Me: Don! Sit down and listen to a song I learned!
Don: Okay.
Me: well, What did you think??!!
Don: (pause) Do you want my Simon Cowell opinion or my husband opinion?
Me: Your Simon Cowell opinion.
Don: I don't really like the song. The lyrics are dumb. It says "Though rich or poor I maybe" too many times.
Me: Okay. Well what is your Husband opinion?
Don: It's pretty good!

(So I put the song in the trash.)

This was one of the many nights that Chloe requested I get my violin out so that she could dance.  But really, she wants me to get my violin out, so she can play it.  I believe Aunt Lizzy was here that night, (yes Liz?) and also the night that Macie displayed her blossoming ballerina skills.

This was yesterday after school.  She took off her school clothes and told me she was putting on her pajamas because they were "cool"  (as in literally). As you can see, the Book of Mormon is nearby.  She can basically read and comprehend it all by herself.  She is in Kindergarten after all.  This was also school picture day, the day that she picked the rattiest shirt she could find, and I let her, because I am fine cementing in history her kindergarten fashion choices for future generations to see.  I hope the fresh jelly stain shows up in the picture.
Today Chelsey became Chloe's latest makeover victim.  Okay let's be honest.  Chelsey is always Chloe's makeover victim.
What I loved about it was that she raided my closet.
 And my lipstick.
And my shoes.  The pants are a la Chelsey though. I think she looks pretty sharp, don't you?

PS Macie loves stuffed animals. A lot.  Just needed to write that down or I would forget.

Children are disgusting...but cute. Cutely disgusting.

I warn you, if you don't like stories about uh, well bowel movements, I would just quit here.

So Macie is at that stage that she rips off her diaper.  99% of the time I make sure to put a diaper cover over her diaper to prevent her from doing so.  The other 1% is me living in denial.

Well today I was living in denial, and lo and behold, she went #2.

Suffice it say, she was a mess.  Which is nothing...the worst part is locating all the evidence left behind.
And, I believe I found *most of it.
Sitting on a doll couch.  Lovingly, and gently, placed on the seat of doll couch, like it had come over for afternoon tea.
