Sedona

Back in November we went to Sedona. It was a perfect weekend. We went up Thursday evening and came back Saturday night. Don has a friend with a vaction home there. The property and views are sublime.
Oscar was a busy bee as usual. We found a good job for him though. He picked up pinecones and threw them in the trash. It was a dream come true for him. A ground fall of "balls" begging to be thrown.

On Friday we took a little hike behind the property.

This is basically the view from her house. As you can see, we were looking directly into the sun. After our little hike, we took a drive out to Slide Rock. The sun was setting, and while beautiful, it was quite nippy. Macie had fallen asleep in the car on the way over there, so when she woke up, she was in beast mode. And since we had left while the sun was still high and semi warm, we were unprepared for the temperature change. Which meant everyone was very cold, and Macie was quite vocal in her discomfort.

I gave her Oscar's jacket, which only ticked her off more because the sleeves were too short.

Here she is demonstrating how unhappy she was.
We still had fun checking out the area. I liked imagining the first people that came across this property and thought, hey, look it's a big slide!
After Slide Rock we found a slightly dumpy Mexican Restaurant and filled ourselves to the brim with average mexican food. When you live in AZ, I guess you become snobby about good Mexican food. The churros and ice cream were out of this world though.

Saturday we decided to take another hike. I wanted to get a taste of Fall so we went down by Oak Creek again. It was all fun and games until Don had the idea to play this hiking game where you basically take turns being in front, and then the person in back tries to take over the front. I'm sure it has a concise name, but I cannot recall. Anyway, Macie was not all that participatory in the game anyway, and somewhere in the process of reluctantly playing, she tripped and fell and then the world basically ended right then and there. She did skin her knee up which meant she had to be carried for the rest of the hike with a considerable amount of boo hooing. we found a place along the creek to take a break and take in the crying...I mean beauty.
(they enjoyed climbing the rock, of course this was before the skinned knee tragedy)
Anyway, as soon as we made it down to the creek to rest, Chloe told me she had to go to the bathroom. And because she had waited until just prior to her bladder exploding to mention this, there was not enough time to ahem, properly situate herself, so she peed all over her shoes and pants. And there is nothing better then urine soaked shoes, is there? Especially when they are the only pair of shoes you brought.
So she rinsed them off in the creek and we set them out to dry for a little while, which I guess was fine, because Macie was still traumatized from her fall and needed some more time to calm herself. And then...we headed back, Don and I taking turns carrying Oscar and Macie, and Chloe with her wet shoes.
Don promised them fishing before our hike, and he held true to his word. There was fishing pool just down the road. We pulled in and Don says, "Kids, this is where all the best fisherman in the world come to fish." It was a fish hatchery. With about a trillion fish in each pond. The kids had a GREAT time catching a fish. And I couldn't watch. Don told me I needed to change my facial expression because I was looking horrified. Now I eat meat, and I have never considered myself an animal activist or anything, but I guess I am somewhat of a bleeding heart because I felt really bad for the fish. I prefer to buy my meat at the store where it is wrapped in plastic and I don't have to consider it was once a living animal. Don told me Jesus was a fisherman and ate fish, and well, I guess he has a pretty good point there.

Oscar enjoyed throwing rocks in the pond.

After our fishing adventure we went back to the house and fried up the fish and cleaned up. And Don watched the kids while I went shopping at the GAP outlet.I bought myself some clothes. And is there anything I enjoy doing more? I should say not. When we were doing all our car shopping, I had about a 1 hr shopping limit. To me, car shopping is so tedious. I discovered though, that Don loves car shopping. He loves it. He commented that for him, looking at cars is how I feel when I look for shoes and clothes.
And that was our Sedona trip.
Can't remember if I posted these. Here we are at a suns game back in October.

 At a Halloween party....
